Natchez Bluff

A Grindr date abruptly goes awry during a short roadtrip to the lad’s hometown of Natchez, Mississippi, resulting in the lad speeding off in his vehicle alone, leaving Mike in a hotel parking lot near the Mississippi River in an unfamiliar area with nearly no money, accommodations, or friends. Welcome to Natchez, y’all!

Good morning, this is Mike George coming at you "live on tape" from beautiful Natchez, Mississippi, where the sun has finally decided to show its face after what feels like a week-long marathon of rain. It’s been a bit gray and depressing lately, but we made it through! I’m currently trekking across some very wet ground in decidedly non-waterproof shoes to get to the edge of the bluff so we can look at the Mississippi River in all her glory.

Just look at that view! To the south, you can see the Vidalia-Natchez Bridge. It’s actually a remarkable bridge because it hasn't been "desecrated" by an Eisenhower interstate highway; it’s just a local road that leads right into the heart of the city. I think that’s why Natchez feels like a proper, cute town instead of just a generic rest stop along a highway like you see so often in places like Ohio.

This city was built on a hill, which was a seriously smart move compared to, say, New Orleans, which was built below sea level. If you look down the hill, you can see the road leading to the Magnolia Bluffs Casino, which is where I spent some time hanging out last night. My hands are shaking a little bit because it’s still pretty chilly — probably barely peaking around 40 degrees Fahrenheit — but it’s a gorgeous day to watch the mighty Mississippi flow south toward Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

As for me, I’m just here sipping on some coffee courtesy of the Grand Hotel in downtown Natchez. I’m currently living life on a "shoestring budget," though that might be a generous description considering my pile of declined credit cards. I’ve definitely spent my "bottom dollar," but I’m still finding a moment of bliss in this sunshine.

To everyone watching, I hope you have some sunshine wherever you are. If you're up north and it's cold, stay cozy. And hey, if you have a friend on the street, maybe invite them in to stay warm for a minute—as long as they don't rob you, of course. But even then, I guess that’s what insurance is for!

Get outside and enjoy what the Lord provides. As I always say: take care of yourselves, and take care of somebody else. Happy Friday!
