Underbelly of the Bridge
Mike seeks refuge from the rain beneath the Natchez-Vidalia Bridge spanning the Mississippi River.
This is Mike George coming at you live on tape from this beautiful location while on assignment. This is the Natchez Vidalia Bridge, which crosses the Mississippi River. I am currently in the unique position of being underneath the bridge because it is raining, and "ain't nobody got time for that"—definitely not me.
I am taking advantage of our fine American infrastructure to seek refuge from this dose of rain, which is actually quite refreshing. I just don’t feel like being out in it right now, so we’re going to let the bridge handle it.
It is actually quite cool to see how the rain drains from the road deck and dumps right out under the bridge. This is a really neat view of the Mississippi River. Looking across from Louisiana toward the state of Mississippi, you can see Natchez and a little collection of lights appearing over there past the bridge. All things considered, it’s a pretty lovely day.
I’m taking this opportunity to head back toward my "correct state" while seeking refuge. It looks like the rain might have stopped, though that might just be the water continuing to drain from the deck.
I noticed there is a catwalk that traverses the underbelly of the bridge. As you can see, it crosses several points where you would have to climb over the girders. I’m too old for that shit, so I’m not brave enough to take that path.
If you ever find yourself stuck in the rain, just tell yourself: "I am on the world's largest body of fresh water, I’m enjoying life, and nothing is going to let me down". This has been Mike George—take care of yourselves and take care of somebody else.
