The Great American Circle Jerk

Mike marvels at the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) corporation for its unmatched ability to profit from drumming up conflict and division among young Americans.

Hello, and good morning! This is a special edition of “Open Mike LIVE” After Dark… that funny time when it’s both after dark and… before sunrise. It is actually pretty wonderful outside here in Alexandria.

I am watching CNBC of all things — CNBC, mind you, which is usually the most boring news imaginable. But I just saw the most hilarious story I think I have ever seen in my life!

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) must have a stock that people care enough about to buy, since CNBC is covering them. If you are looking for a company to buy stock in—I’ll play Jim Cramer for a second—buy WWE. I am in awe, and I will tell you why.

So, World Wrestling Entertainment—oh God, I am in awe just thinking about this. The CEO of WWE, Stephanie McMahon—the daughter of Vince McMahon, who anybody who has ever watched wrestling will remember as the blowhard who used to control WWE—just announced she stepped down today. Anybody who is not an idiot knows that WWE is all staged; it is stagecraft, not true wrestling. The performers, the actors, actually, let’s just call it straight male drag.

She stepped down, I think, to avoid the conflict of interest or scandal associated with what I am about to tell you. You cannot make this stuff up! I just saw on the news today where WWE the company has to pay Stephanie McMahon, the former CEO who just stepped down, a bunch of probably millions of dollars to settle some sort of discrimination lawsuit.

So, let’s stop right there: Does anybody see something wrong with this?!

WWE gets sued for discrimination by its own CEO, who is the daughter of the owner of the company! You do not need an MBA to know something is fundamentally wrong here. This family-owned corporation is essentially paying the winnings of a discrimination lawsuit to the daughter of the owner of the company. This is unbelievable!

I have gotten pretty savvy at knowing what sells on platforms like this, and it is definitely not intellect or analysis. I knew all I had to do to get a viewer was to take my clothes off! I even spoke Chinese for a rare glimpse you will never see again, all while trying to educate you!

This entire scenario—a CEO collecting millions from her own family’s company via a discrimination suit—is a metaphor for everything that is wrong in this country, wrong on social media, and wrong in our entire society. I cannot help but just stare in awe at this thing. We live in a world where generating conflict, division, and hate is how people make a living. After all, we all love a good fight.

This has been Mike George, coming at you live from Crimson House Alexandria with a special edition of Facebook After Dark. Take care of yourselves and take care of somebody else—or maybe, if you are feeling brash, throw a chair at them; it will make millions!
