Evening in Portland
Mike provides a tour of downtown Portland, Oregon, discussing his tenuous housing situation and his frustrations finding an apartment. Passing by Powell’s Books and turning onto Harvey Milk Street, Mike reflects on the challenges of being homeless, including the loss of his personal belongings.
This is Mike George coming at you live from Portland, Oregon. It is a beautiful day in this magical little city. I’m trying out my new phone and its various gadgets to see the quality of the Facebook Live stream. It has a pretty good camera!
Welcome back to the show. It always feels like two steps forward and one step back in some ways. I have been working on getting an apartment, which has proven to be very difficult in this city. I have narrowed it down to two places, with a third potentially on the way, but I’ve had a lot of trouble with rental applications and ensuing drama.
We have two people watching right now. I never know who watches these — show yourselves…!
Hopefully, you can hear me; this is a good audio test. I need to improve the production quality of these videos, which means finding my Bluetooth headphones with microphones.
It sucks being homeless, because you end up losing a lot of items. I have lost probably 3 pairs of Bluetooth headphones. Thank God they weren't the $250 AirPods, as I can't afford to lose those!
Let’s take a look around downtown Portland**. It’s a quiet night. Over there is the famous Powell’s Books. I’m heading toward Scandals, a place I am technically ‘86’ed from, but I still go there to smoke and have a good time since nobody seems to mind.
I like to do these shots of the city; I’m walking up the bike lane right now. It makes me feel like a "boss," because there are no bikes coming, and the cars have to respect the lane. I don't have any music playing because getting my speaker out requires too much effort, so I’m just doing commentary while walking the streets.
I am currently going up Harvey Milk Way. If we were at Scandals, we would be commenting on everyone’s parallel parking skills, but it’s a quiet Monday night.
Well, that was a very unexciting walk, but beautiful nonetheless in the city of Portland, Oregon. With that, I’m Mike George. Take care of each other, guys.
