Late-Night WANDA Serenade

Mike performs with WANDA in Harrison Park, basking in the ethereal and peaceful night to M83’s album “You And The Night.”

Welcome to a special edition of Open Mike LIVE on this beautiful Saturday evening, the 4~5 of October 2025.

In the midst of my nightward travels, I came across this gazebo in Harrison Park here in Columbus, Ohio. It’s a spot I’d almost forgotten about, but as soon as I saw it, I knew I had to stop.

There’s something I haven't mentioned often enough about traveling with WANDA. Unlike headphones or even a car audio system, WANDA interacts with the spaces traveled through. From the wide-open sky to a parking garage - or even a library atrium - each space has its own unique acoustic characteristics and resonant frequencies.

I realize that sometimes I might play the music excessively loud without realizing it, much to the chagrin of my neighbors! It’s not always because I’m being rude; sometimes, I just don’t know any better, because I'm so caught up in how the sound is traveling through the space.

Since I couldn't pass up the acoustic properties of this big gazebo, I’m going to do a special performance. I’ll be playing a sequence from one of my favorite M83 albums, You and the Night. It’s all orchestration—no lyrics—and it perfectly captures that sublime, nighttime vibe... just taking a little walk through the neighborhood.

I also want to dedicate this to a good friend of mine, Albert.
