Saturday Morning Coffee Talk
Mike takes a short walk down the street, bemoaning the city’s car-centric urban design and lack of pedestrian infrastructure. He then invites viewers inside to relax to some music, offering cooking tips and pondering to himself how to better navigate the messiness of livestreaming.
Hello again, everyone! It’s Mike George coming at you live. Welcome to another production of “Open Mike LIVE’ - though 'production' might be a generous word for the beautiful mess these usually turn out to be.
It’s Saturday on the 19th of February. February always seems to throw me off; those missing three days just mess with my internal clock. It’s a gorgeous day here in Alexandria, Louisiana — much warmer than I expected — so I thought I’d take you on a little walk down my street.
You know, if you look at a map of Alexandria, it looks like an urban planner just went wild. The road design makes zero sense. I’m back on my soapbox again, I know, but look at the infrastructure! It’s designed entirely for cars, not people. My own street doesn’t even have a sidewalk. We just assume everyone has a car, and it’s a silly philosophy to build a city around. I mean, we have these massive traffic circles—like the one near me—that take up so much room.
Why… Christina why?! (That’s my 'Mommie Dearest' catchphrase for when I’m annoyed)
Anyway, it’s a lovely Saturday morning at Crimson House. I had a great night—shout out to the Lord and the apps for that collaboration—and I’m walking around feeling a bit disheveled in the best way possible. I’m trying to get my life together today, even though I’m pretty exhausted.
I’ve been hanging out with some of you in the comments—hey Luke, thanks for breaking the seal on the chat! I’ve been trying to get some music going, but I’ve been playing this game of 'where is the computer mouse' because I have two of them and they’re never where they should be. Finally found it, though!
I wanted to share some music with you all. I have so many playlists — 'Le Pleut' for rainy days, 'Homo Sweet Home,' 'Sativa Daze,' even a sex playlist called 'Tente Rouge.' But today, I’m going 'off-menu.' I’ve been obsessed with this filmed concert series from Paris. We listened to a bit of Chappelle Fou (I think that’s French for 'mad hatter,' though don’t quote me on my French), and then my personal favorite, a track called 'Code Zero.' The footage is just a masterpiece.
After all that music, I realized I needed a break. I talk way too fast — especially after a little cannabis—and I’m working on my pacing. I always think of President Obama and his 'pregnant pause.' He was a master of using silence as its own kind of music. I’m trying to learn that.
Before I go, I have to toot my own horn about some cooking. I made these incredible stuffed peppers the other day. The secret? Serrano peppers. And forget green bell peppers—they’re useless. I’m strictly a red, orange, and yellow bell pepper household now.
The world is a strange place right now; you look at the news and you don't know whether to laugh or cry. It’s like a dark comedy. But for now, the mailman is here (and he’s cute), so I should probably be polite and go say hello.
Happy Saturday, everyone! Enjoy the weather if it's good where you are, and if not, I'll enjoy it for you. Stay safe and take care of each other.
