Good Morning, America
Mike shares his daily morning routine.
Good morning, this is Mike George coming at you live from Crimson House in Alexandria, Louisiana. It’s a Saturday morning, I’ve got the house to myself, and I am — presumably — officially awake. I wanted to go live to share my morning rituals with you, because I’ve become a bit of a traditionalist. I like to start my day with our national anthems.
You can’t just jump right into the anthem, though; it requires a crescendo and a proper lead-up. I usually start with a little Mr. Rogers, trying to do the whole routine where I zip up my sweater. Let me tell you, Mr. Rogers makes it look easy, but I’m over here struggling with the zipper while my Bluetooth audio tries to kill me. I’m actually hot as balls from the effort—and there definitely isn't a Mr. Rogers song for your balls being hot!
I have to give a shout-out to my neighbors, who are absolutely awesome; they actually came over and mowed my lawn for me because I don't have a mower yet. I think they were just bored and wanted something to do, but it saved me from a lot of stress. I’m just trying to get my speakers positioned right now. My goal is to have a Bluetooth network where a ton of little speakers all play the same thing, like a fancy version of an old-school radio.
When the audio gets that weird time offset and sounds miserable, it drives me crazy. I refuse to let the music sound awful when we get to the Star Spangled Banner; to me, that’s practically a desecration. As an old VP of mine used to say, “don’t let perfect be the enemy of good,” but I still want this to be a wonderful immersion experience.
While we build up to the anthem, I’ve been playing some Janelle Monáe. There’s a line in her song “Americans” where she says, “Don’t try to take my country, I will defend my land,” and that really rings out right now given the situation in Ukraine. It’s heavy, and it makes me think about my own history, like when I lived in Montreal. I ended up leaving Canada in January 2020, which was just two months before COVID started and the borders were sealed. I really got out of there in the nick of time.
Anyway, I’m trying to keep some production standards here for the kids, so I won’t have my bong on camera, but it is time for my smoke and my coffee. My “ghetto” Bluetooth speakers are already bitching about their low batteries, so I need to go recharge my life. I hope you all enjoy your weekend, wherever you are and whoever you’re with. Until next time, take care of yourselves and take care of each other.
