This course reviews mathematical operations that are fundamental to understanding and analyzing quantities and natural behaviors, as well as foundational for higher-level coursework in algebra, geometry, calculus, etc.

Algebra is a generalization of arithmetic that relies on the use of variables and examines how formulas may be transformed for various applications.

It allows for arithmetic operations in unspecified or unknown quantities, making it possible to state relationships for which one does not know the exact values and to express general laws that are true, regardless of the numerical values considered.

Geometry is a kind of mathematics that deals with shapes and figures. Geometry explains how to build or draw shapes, measure them, and compare them. People use geometry in many kinds of work, from building houses and bridges to planning space travel.

Trigonometry is a whole branch of mathematics centers around specific functions of angles and their relationships to one another. The field developed from a need to compute angles and distances in such fields as astronomy, mapmaking, surveying, and artillery range finding.

Calculus is the study of change - how values change over time, accumulation of a function over time, etc.

It’s used to analyse motion, and is essential in a wide variety of fields, including space exploration, telecommunications systems, computer science, engineering, medicine, pharmacology, business, meteorology, and music.

This course is designed for electrical engineers preparing to take the electrical engineering portion (power option) of the Professional Engineer (PE) examination.
