MIDI Quest

Building an 8-Bit World
This collection of 8-bit instrumental themes was originally conceived for a video game concept I had imagined and sketched out as a teenager. It stands now as a musical time capsule harking to a childhood pastime of playing Nintendo games with my father.
Inspired by the expansive realms of Hyrule, Alefgard, Midgar, Mushroom Kingdom, etc. portrayed in these games, it was my attempt to create an entire world of my own design to explore in the manner of a role-playing game (RPG) developed for a 1990ās-vintage gaming console.
Each piece was rendered by utilizing Finale music composition software that emulates the specific timbral and polyphonic constraints of the NES Audio Processing Unit (APU), bridging the gap between traditional orchestral notation and chiptune production.
Note from the Creator
MIDI Quest was a uniquely personal project for me. The tracks are rooted in themes Iād sketched out early in life, influenced by my experience enjoying playing Dragon Warrior and The Legend of Zelda as a kid.
Creating this work fulfilled two of my biggest creative passions - world-building and performing live for an audience. Through modern software, I was able to overcome traditional limitations in hardware access and performer talent to build the immersive worlds and paint the emotional motifs that Iād long dreamed of as a child.
